Each year we choose a charity to support with our raffle and donations, for Didmarton 2025 we have chosen Severn Freewheelers Blood Bikes.
Severn Freewheelers is a group of Advanced motorcyclists who carry whole blood, pathology samples, patient scans/x-rays, human donated milk, medicines – in fact any medical essentials, between hospitals across four counties and also drop into other counties for handovers to other Blood Bike groups, when longer journeys are required.
The Severn Freewheelers are a member of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes and are a free, out-of-hours, not-for-profit charity service (Charity No: 1120999), who get no government or NHS funding and who’s members are all volunteers, yet are an essential resource for the NHS and on duty 365 days a year.
In 2023 they completed 7500 tasks and 6908 in 2024, they have 188 members across the group and in 2024 covered 201,000 miles while providing this essential service.
It costs £85,000 a year to keep the Severn Freewheelers Blood Bikes on the road and we hope you will join us in support of the amazing service they provide for the NHS. You never know when their service may be essential to you or someone you care about. You can read more about them and the service they provide on their website and they will be present at the festival, so please do drop by their stall and speak to them.
